DAY 1

Arrival in Rome

DAY 2

Continental breakfast at hotel

Local coach and guide for a full day sightseeing of Rome including tour of The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore which is a patriarchal basilicas of Rome together with St. Peter's Basilica, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the only one to have preserved the original structure paleocristiana . The legend has it that the Virgin Mary appeared in a dream to Pope Liberius, on the night of August 5, 356, calling on the Pope to build a church on place the following morning he found the snow. The miracle came true and it snowed on the site where the church stands today. You will then visit San Pietro in Vincoli which is a minor basilica built in 1470 and houses the chains of St. Peter and the famous statue of Moses by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Last but not least The Basilica di San Pietro, part of the Vatican, built over the area in which it was the tomb of St. Peter. The construction began in 324 by Emperor Constantine and immediately became one of the most important churches in Rome.

Many are the world fomous artists who worked on this church: from Antonio da Sangallo to Michelangelo who designed the dome. The current appearance of the Basilica of San Pietro is the work of Carlo Maderno who decided the look of the façade, characterized by the great staircase, columns and windows with the benediction loggia. 

Also in Maderno was responsible for the placement of the thirteen statues of Jesus, John the Baptist and the apostles. Finally, Bernini designed the colonnaded portico of St. Peter's Square in the center of the square and put the great obelisk. Its interior features large paintings and mosaics, it contains some of the most famous works of the world, such as the "Canopy" by Bernini and the famous statue of the "Pietà" by Michelangelo.

In the afternoon the tour continues with visit of the most famous squares or Rome, such as Piazza Navona the ancient roman Stadium of Domitian, built in 85 AD, which could accommodate about 30,000 spectators. Piazza Navona is considered a great example of Baroque masterpieces hosting by architects such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Francesco Borromini and Pietro da Cortona. A popular legend says that the square is indicative of the rivalry that existed between Bernini and Borromini: one of the statues of the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini in fact his eyes are covered, as if not wanting to see the facade of the church of St. Agnes in Agony designed by Borromini. Then Piazza di Spagna that takes its name from 'Spanish Embassy. At the center of the square, at the foot of the stairs, is the famous fountain known as the "Four Rivers", by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The name of the fountain comes from the longboats that were used for the transport of wine in the port of Ripetta. Also you can see the famous Spanish Steps, a marble stair of 135 steps, built with the intent to connect the embassy to the church of Trinita dei Monti, which is located above the square.

Last but not least the Trevi Fountain, the most famous and arguably the most beautiful fountain in the city. It is located at the end of '"Aqua Virgo", a Roman aqueduct built in 19 AD, and was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1735. The sea has inspired the landscape is dominated by a rocky wall where the center is the statue of Poseidon driving a shell-shaped chariot pulled by two winged horses. There are then four Corinthian columns on which there are four allegorical statues smaller (left to right): "Plenty of fruit", "Fertility of the fields," "Wealth of Autumn" and "Amenity of the gardens." The Roman fountain is also well known for the cult scene between Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg in Federico Fellini's film "La Dolce Vita".

DAY 3

Start of long distance coach services. Departure for Narni

Arrival in Narni and meet local guide for a half day sightseeing of Narni Underground.

Under the church of San Domenico, a small door was found in 1979. This door led to the most secret rooms and frescoed corridors of the monastery, with graffiti made by inmates of the Tribunal of Inquisition.

In the afternoon departure for Cascate delle Marmore for a half day sightseeing with guide. The water falls flow over three “steps” covering an altitude of 165 metres and enveloping the surrounding lush vegetation in a white cloud.

DAY 4

Meet local guide for a half day sightseeing of Spoleto. It was a flourishing Romam municipality whose signs are still evident in the Arch of Drusus and Germanicus (23 AD), the Roman Theatre (I century AD.) and the Casa Romana. From the fourth century became an episcopal developing a solid ecclesiastical organization. The city took place, then, a fundamental political role shortly after the arrival of the Lombards in Italy. The Basilica of San Salvatore, located on the outskirts of the city, is exceptional and extraordinarily well preserved.

Visit of a local winery with wine and food tasting.  

In the afternoon visit of Bevagna with guide. Probably of Etruscan origin, Bevagna is contemporary of Rome (then it was called Mevania, probably from the name of a local noble Etruscan). It traces of ancient Rome to Bevagna there are still many. In addition to the general structure of the city, which has developed around the cardo and the decumanus of the ancient settlement, still remain the Roman baths, decorated with beautiful mosaics, an amphitheater, on which have been built medieval houses, a column that looks great if the center of the main square and some architectural remains in the city churches. Bevagna was once known for the production of valuable paintings, called "Bevagna". Today Bevagna is famous for the medieval re-enactment of the Mercato delle Gaite, which takes place every year in June and attracts many Italian and foreign tourists.

DAY 5

Local guide for a half day sightseeing of Assisi and Santa Maria degli Angeli. Assisi, ancient sanctuary and medieval city built on a hill, is the birthplace of St. Francis and is closely associated with the activity of the order of the Franciscans. The masterpieces of medieval art, such as the Basilica of San Francesco and paintings by Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone Martini and Giotto, have made Assisi a fundamental reference point for the development of art and architecture in Italy and Europe.

The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is located in the plain which opens at the foot of the hill of Assisi in protection of the Portiuncula, where Francis would have founded the first nucleus of the Order of Friars Minor in 1209 and the chapel where the saint died on October 3, 1226.

Departure for Perugia

Afternoon visit of Perugia with local guide. The old town is built around this point forming five medieval villages in prolongation of the respective gates of the Etruscan city. The original circle of the Etruscan walls that stretched for about 3 km. Were added new medieval walls, which are still almost completely intact, reaching the development of approximately 9 km. The five historic districts are Porta Sole, Porta Sant'Angelo, Porta S. Susanna, Eburnea Porta and Porta S. Pietro.

DAY 6

Departure for Orvieto for a half day sightseeing with guide. The Duomo is one of the most significant creations of Italian Gothic architecture. The façade, in the form of a triptych, shines with polychrome marbles, sculptures and mosaics. Characteristic of the portal with the central rose by Andrea Orcagna [fourteenth century]. The city of Orvieto is located on top of a cliff in tuff which is reached by cable car. It was one of the most important Etruscan cities. Also to visit the medieval Palazzo del Popolo, a thirteenth century town hall, the medieval quarter of the city, including churches and palaces of gold tufa see the churches of St. Juvenal, St. John and St. Dominic, which contains the marble sarcophagus carved by Arnolfo di Cambio.
